The Fall of a Leader

Banner The High Priestess.
The High Priestess had been leading the Clan for some time now. She took control of the Clan from the moment we found our self on the Sphere. She did not have a name, and was known to all as the High Priestess. She had a mighty appearance and was a natural leader. I am one of the few who has actually seen the High Priestess. As part of the council I had weekly meetings with her to discuss the tactical position of the Clan.

This is the story of the Clan in the weeks leading to the loss of the High Priestess. At the point in time I start this tale, the Clan had already lived for a while. The high Priestess had made some bad choices and the general opinion was shifting from total trust to sound questioning of her position in the Clan.

We were having increasing discussion in the council about the running of the Clan and especially the positioning of the Hall. There were some who wanted to move the Hall away from the Blight. And some who wanted to stay near our allies and our sacred birthplace. The High Priestess vetoed that we should leave the Hall just inside the blight zone, even if this meant we only had biomass for generation 50 breeders.

Go 234 North

The setting.
Our allies were at war just north of us, and we had some leftover titans from another war in the area that we chipped in. This mostly included fighting Clan Thunder Bunny (TB). Even though Clan YoungBlood (YB) was fought on the side to keep access to an important gate. And a few other Clans had their titans shot on sight.

Go 248 El Burro Ridge After loosing the northernmost fighters and seeing TB sending his titans southward, we sent small but fast breeders and fighters towards "El Burro's Ridge" to hold TB from moving further south. The fighters and their newly bred brothers quickly moved into position at and around the mountains. And most of the war against TB was to be held in these mountains.

At this time a cry for help came from Clan Donkey who had their Hall threatened by the YB and his friends. The foresaid fighters were in the area of Clan Donkeys Hall, and they would direct their fire to YB titans whenever no TB titans were within range. This and the brave effort of Donkey kept the YB titans at bay.

Go 248 Northern Gate A visit from the outside
Clan Protoss decided to go directly for the YB Hall, as this would surely slow the progress of the YB front moving towards Clan Donkeys Hall. The advisory board felt we had enough to do with the TB war, and the problems with the low generation breeding program around our Hall, so we only extended the effort against YB by enlarging the safe zone around the important Gate north of our area.

The attack on YB's Hall led to a giant squeal for help from YB. Older Clans responded to this scream. These were, to our knowledge, at least Clan Cameleon and Clan Spanish Inquisition (SI).

Go 255 The BloodLust surprise Without our knowledge these Clans went to hunt out the Protoss Hall, which Protoss asked if he could move through our area. We had once moved our Hall through the Protoss area, so the High Priestess decided that the Protoss Hall was granted access to move through and even settle within it.

At this moment we had finally talked the High Priestess into moving our Hall to a mountain southeastwards of its current position, outside the Blight area near purple biomass fields. Totems were erected around our new mountain, fighters put in position, and our Hall was set into flight mode. But just as it was about to move from the mountain it used to live on a set of BloodLust titans appeared on the mountain we were moving towards.

Go 262 SI and Cameleon at Home The Hall was put down on a slope of its old mountain just 1 hex from the Blight barrier, as we started cleaning out BloodLust titans. They quickly went back to their slide, and will return in some uncertain future.

When the Protoss Hall was a few trekking distances into our area, a true storm of Cameleon and SI titans started to gate into our area. We were very worried by this, but were told by both that they would not harm us if we kept out of their business with Protoss.

As these Clans were much older than us we kept out of their business, but we did not believe them. We extended our fighter production program, producing fighter breeders from the newly set down Hall.

All of this turbulence did not help the High Priestess to get a better image in the public, quite the contrary. With the Hall left not fully protected, hostile titans all over the land, and a friend being beaten on our very doorstep, her popularity was at an all-time low.

Turned attention.
Clan Cameleon and SI went directly for the Protoss Hall, and luckily for us moved out of range of our Hall. They could still see it, but they could not hit it. After having taken some beating Clan Protoss imploded; the Hall was destroyed, the Clan was called DOG, and was never seen again.

Go 266 SI turning attention Losing their prize the Cameleon titans went south to battle Clan Black Wolf, but the SI titans stayed behind. Most of these titans were older than even our newest fighters, and almost twice the age of our old fighting stock. SI declared that our Clan was old enough to take the beating, and our Hall could yield the ranking points not gained from Clan Protoss.

The population was scared and turned to the High Priestess and the advisory board, telling us to scream for help. Seeing how it worked for YB, they felt it was bound to work for us as well.

We refused to see this as an option, although the High Priestess was tempted by the easiness of the proposal. We decided to come up with another plan to save, if not the Hall, then at least the Clan.

Battle commence.
Even with age and advanced tech against us, we had a greater number of titans, better positions in the mountains and luck was with us. We quickly had the SI titans within close proximity of our Hall removed, but SI was rebuilding a new wave of fighters to the east. And their titans on the mountain south of our Hall fought hard.

Go 269 Battle situation Our Breeders had been placed a little distance from the Hall, and it was hard to protect both the breeding ground and retake the mountain south of the Hall. We decided to concentrate on the southern mountain to remove all SI titans from visual range of our Hall. This would leave us with the option of moving it without their knowledge.

As the defences around the breeding grounds lessened, the SI fighters gained ground here, but at the same time we were able to remove his titans from the southern mountain and gain access to a Gate just south of it.

While all this took place we searched out a good landing zone for our Hall, should it decide to flee. We found such a place, and started a breeding program at and around the mountain where the Hall would land.

Our effort to keep the northern Gate was lessened, as we had to use our fighters to battle SI. So YB titans were retaking the areas around the Gate, which we wished to use for the Hall move.

All through this time Frenzy was doing a good job at keeping the YB titans away from our area, so we could concentrate on the matters at hand.

Go 276 Heavy attack by SI Hall movement.
When we saw the eastern flanks around our breeding grounds fall, we found the access to the northern Gate threatened. We moved titans into position on a few important mountains around the route the Hall would use to get to the Gate.

The Hall bred its last fighter, and went into flight-mode. This would be the test to see if we could pull the stunt of moving the Hall without being noticed by SI.

It failed from the start. The High Priestess had ordered the move too late. On the very day the Hall was put in flight-mode, a single SI titan was within sight of the Hall.

The bad judgement by the High Priestess added to the bad feelings already within the ranks. And a few days later, one of our own titans fired all its canons directly at our Hall, killing 10 people and wounding many more including the High Priestess.

Go 282 South Gate The Hall was repaired within one day, and was able to move on. But the moving of the Hall made it hard to treat the High Priestess, whom was not feeling well. I had to take control of the Clan as it almost fell apart. I had enough authority to keep the morale on a high enough level to continue with the plan.

The SI titan saw the Hall in flight-mode, and SI must have seen strait through it all. Except he misjudged which Gate we would use. He thought we would use the southern Gate we had just liberated, and started moving fighters in to retake that position.

At the same time the Hall was running north. The path was basically cleared right in front of it. It was mostly YB titans standing in the way, but the new Hall protection fighters easily cleared them away so they never saw the Hall.

Go 282 North Gate Caught and killed.
Right at the end of the Hall move, on the day before the Hall reached the northern Gate, SI had seen through our plan, and had titans jump into position near the northern Gate. We instantly fired at them, but they were to good at repairing. One on them had one weapon repaired, which was fired on the Hall on the very day it jumped through the Gate.

The breeders in the landing zone had bred a large amount of titans to fill out most hexes around the Hall landing point. And they were ready to defend the Hall.

Go 283 .... SI saw where the Hall jumped, and they had it wounded. SI fighters jumped towards the new position of the Hall. But we had the two Gates covered, so only a few titans were able to get through, and most of these were damaged beyond repair. This was indeed a glorious day, where the titans landed we harvested them like grain, scoring approximately 300 points.

SI controlled other Gates and used these to move more fighters into another attack at our Clan and our Hall.

But worst of all, that one shot was too much for the High Priestess. It killed her.

The Priesthood was removed, the advisory board was dissolved, and I rose to power. I am now leading the Clan to even greater glory.

Banner Epilogue.
Because of the valiant effort of our Clan in the Hall defence, we were granted a peace agreement not long after. Shortly hereafter SI ceased to exist, and the Don has only recently shown up among the ORZ.

This left the Hall intact and enabled the Clan to recover after the assault. Even though some claim what had taken place was a coup, it was only what was necessary to get the Clan safely through a hard time and prepare it for the future.

Those of you, who has had any involvement in the story know who I am, but for the rest and for the future generations: I am Siferra of Clan Biscuit.
